In our experience, the ‘Co’ in Cobot can be one of three things – co-existence, cooperation or collaboration.
Co-existence – a cellular concept, similar to a traditional industrial robot.
Cooperation – some element of workspace sharing between the robot and the operator, where the robot is either in a low speed or a paused state while the operator is in the cell.
Collaboration – true collaboration between a robot and an operator is a different concept that requires a holistic approach to automation solution design involving the robotic arm, end of arm tooling, product, environment to name but a few.
Collaborative robots give manufacturers access to all the benefits of advanced robotic automation, without the extra costs which can arise with traditional industrial robots, such as programming complexity, shielded work cells, limited task flexibility.
This is why we advise companies to liaise with us prior to implementation to assess all the various robotic options available first. As a platform-independent automations solutions provider, we can ensure the right robot types, from the right manufacturer, for the right elements of your process line you’re looking to automate.
Reduces operating costs – collaborative robots allow for lower wastage levels, less human error and more scalability, all of which contribute to lower operational costs.
Increased productivity & output quality – processes become more efficient, the margin for error is reduced, quality improves and production is increased. In addition, workers become happier in their jobs because they can do more challenging work. Thanks to our multidisciplinary team we can guide an automation project from design to reality.
Improved operational flexibility – a cobot is a flexible robot and adding new tasks to it is quite simply, which means you could perform a different task every day.
Lower material waste – collaborative robots are precise, performing actions with repeatability of up to 0.1 mm. A cobot will never deviate from its actions and will always perform tasks with the same power. For example, tightening screws, this will always be done with the same torque and speed which ensures consistency.
Short implementation times – due to their smaller size and flexibility of use, Collaborative Robots mean a quick implementation time when timeframes are squeezed. It can be up and running within an hour in certain scenarios.
Rapid return-on-investment – because collaborative robots are easier to program and implement than their large traditional industrial robots, a quick return on your capital outlay is easier to obtain.
Increased employee satisfaction – skilled staff are freed up from mundane, repetitive tasks to perform higher skilled tasks.
