The Siemens S5 PLC on our food & beverage customers palletising machine needed upgrading as this legacy equipment was obsolete and no longer supported.
The upgrade was carried out inside the refrigerated area to ensure there was no disruption to other activities, and was completed during a planned shutdown by creating a window in the production schedule. After the installation the System was tested and commissioned and put into service.
Siemens S5 PLC and associated distribution modules were removed and Flex I/o modules were fitted.
The PLC rack was split into 4 banks to allow fitment where old distribution modules were removed. All banks of I/O were linked together with Allen Bradley bus connector cables to create one PLC Rack.
The panel was fully tidied and all components clearly identified ensuring all wires/ cables were traced fully with identification markers added where applicable.
All work was conducted within a small window planned in between production, the work was conducted inside the refrigerated area ensuring no disruption to all other activities under way on site
After the installation the System was tested and commissioned and put into service
