Work Experience

23/02/2018

Oliver Anderson, son of ICONSYS Senior Project Engineer Rob Anderson, spent a week at the beginning of February at ICONSYS as part of his work experience.

Oliver is in year 10, studying for his first year of GCSEs and attends the JCB Academy in Rocester, Staffordshire.  This is a brand new, unique school which is focused on delivering high-quality engineering and business related education.  The learning techniques employed offer the students a combination of theory with practical activity, with emphasis being placed on putting learning into practice in a purpose built, state-of-the-art engineering facility.

The purpose of Oliver’s work experience was to provide him with an opportunity to explore the functions of the different engineering departments within an actual working company.  This would also benefit his development by giving him an insight and a feel of which engineering career path he might want to take in the future.  Oliver spent time with each of the many different areas of the business; gaining experience of our administration, accounts, procurement and marketing departments’ operational functionality, besides learning how an engineering project is managed from the initial enquiry through to the delivery of the finished product. Additionally, Oliver had a more in-depth time with our Robotic team as he shadowed a Robotic engineer having been given an initial basic training on robotic programming and the use of simulation. His hands-on experience included spending time on the shop floor working alongside the manufacturing team, wiring and helping build panels.  He was given an insight into the service support team function and the services we offer, gathering experience working alongside an engineer on drives & PLCs in our technology suite.

We wish Oliver every success for the future.
