Work Experience at iconsys

05/08/2024

In the month of July, we welcomed 3 students to Technology Hub on work experience.

From a garage in Telford to forming a multi-million-pound automation solutions company. Our CEO, Trevor Darrall, started off his career as an apprentice and through grit, determination and vision, founded iconsys in 1987.

His story and many of our directors share similar paths, which means we’re always looking at ways to develop the next generation of engineers: and it often begins with work experience.

We took great pleasure in welcoming 3 work experience students this month, sharing our knowledge, experiences and stories with them. Here’s what one of the work experience students Sofiia Udovenko from Thomas Telford School, said of her experience with us:

I really enjoyed my time at iconsys and couldn’t thank you enough for giving me this opportunity. All the staff were friendly and very helpful, explaining many new concepts to me that I haven’t learnt in school, PLC’s being one example. I tried many new things, ranging from programming in a completely different programming language to those I’ve used before, to helping in the workshop by putting together small details for a large commercial project. Thank you!

From wiring panels in the workshop to collaborating with our hardware design team and diving into programming, these students received a well-rounded view of electrical engineering at iconsys.

A special mention to our apprentices who were instrumental in imparting their knowledge and experience, and for sharing their perspectives on the work we do at iconsys. Their involvement helped to enrich the students’ understanding to helpfully inspire the next generation of engineers.

We believe that by supporting young talent, we’re helping to future-proof our industry, shaping the engineers of the future.
