A major glass manufacturer needed to update the control of its toughened glass line to improve reliability and quality of the finished product.
The existing control system did not provide the precise control required to meet the fine tolerances the customer was aiming for, it also relied upon outdated hardware.
The line comprised of a furnace, quench, wash station and measuring station along with the glass transport to move between stations.
Glass sheets were loaded by the operator and etched with a unique code. After loading the sequence is started, the glass is moved into the furnace for a heat treatment cycle. From here it is transferred to the quench for cooling, then onto washing and finally the measuring station for quality control and pairing. Closed loop control of the measured glass is provided to feed a correction back up the line to improve the quality of the glass throughout the production run.
