Business Unit Manager – Mechanical

Summary of role

As the Business Unit Manager – Mechanical Products you will be responsible for providing direction and support for the daily operational activities of the company. You will work closely with sales to further develop the Go To Market strategy and liaise with the leadership team on projects from bid right through to delivery. In this important role, you will take full responsibility for the P&L, functional unit strategy and planning under the organisations objectives and key results.

You will solidify and strengthen long-term relationships with key partners. In addition, you will assist in handling requests for products and spares and be the first contact for following up on quotations.

You should hold a sound mechatronic and power transmission background, with a mechanical bias. This is an exciting role where you will predominately work with OEMs, but also be involved with system integrators and end users.

 

Key responsibilities

Pre Sale

  • To formulate proposals and quotations along with technical product support to external & internal parties when required with a Mechatronic Approach
  • To prepare technical quotations and specifications, including estimating resources and costing of equipment required
  • To liaise regularly with external parties to ensure effective and timely delivery of products/projects
  • To communicate with internal departments, ensure products/projects meet scheduled delivery timings
  • To manage and control of the product quotation/tendering process from start to finish
  • To be the technical authority for mechanical solutions (i.e. You will technically sign off all bids technical solution).

 

Post Sale

  • To be responsible for management of the Product business
  • To be comfortable overseeing a number of on-going projects at any one time
  • To trouble shoot technical issues when they arise and escalate as necessary with the team.
  • To work as part of a team or alone with senior guidance as required
  • To monitor and control stage payments for customer contracts
  • To manage product business in I connect (ERP system)
  • To manage invoicing and debt chasing escalations
  • To chair monthly product business review meetings
  • To do product business reporting
  • To drive product business process improvements

 

General

  • Comply with all Company procedures and standards as defined in various documents including the Quality Manual, Staff Manual and Health & Safety Manual
  • Other duties as required

 

Requirements – Knowledge, skills and experience

  • Degree or HNC/HND in relevant Mechanical Engineering discipline
  • This is a hands on roles, where you will possess strong problem solving and inter-personal skills
  • 5 years of previous Mechatronic and Power Transmission experience is essential
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly computer literate
  • Be pro-active in supporting other company activities
  • Exceptional customer facing skill, deal professionally, competently, and courteously with customers
  • Analytical skills, keen eye for detail
  • Ability to navigate stressful working situations
  • Excellent budget management skills and ensure profitability
  • Business travel – UK and abroad
  • Working beyond normal hours in order to meet any required deadlines
